In LAMDA students focus on vocal and communication skills by reciting a variety of poetry. Each lesson students will take part in warmup exercises before moving on to their performances. Feedback is given on a weekly basis. Students have the opportunity to take an examination in speaking verse and prose.
The London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA) is the oldest drama school in the UK and the academy enjoys a reputation for excellence worldwide. LAMDA examinations are accredited as an Awarding Body of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the higher grades in the speaking of verse and prose also carry UCAS points (points required for University entry). Tuition in LAMDA expressive speech helps children to improve communication skills through the spoken word, encourages an interest and appreciation of literature and drama and supports the creative, intellectual and social development of the individual and increases confidence. Children have the opportunity to take the exam in the Speaking of Verse and Prose at the end of the Easter term when an examiner attends the school.
I teach LAMDA sessions to students from year 2 upwards. If you would like your child/children to take lessons then kindly complete the form below and return to the school office. Lessons are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and these take the form of group sessions. The majority of sessions happen during Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes however there is a Tuesday morning session and afterschool sessions on both Tuesdays and Thursdays as well. Each student will take part in one session per week. All students will need to bring a notebook to lessons so that feedback can be written down in order to communicate with both students and parents.
Applications will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis. It is also essential that you provide an active email address in the form below, as most of my correspondence is via email.
Fees for LAMDA tuition will be at £60 per term and are payable before the first week of each term. If I am able to accommodate your child/children in September, then a place will be secured for the academic year and therefore a full term’s notice must be given in the event of you wishing to stop LAMDA lessons.
When your child has been scheduled a place, you will be given a confirmation via email. The term will start on Tuesday 13th September. I will be confirming places in late August ready for the start of the term.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Gemma Banks (gemmabanks@ruckleigh.co.uk)
